Hey, sorry you got auf’d – loved the dress and the hoodie!! It was an unfair call on the part of the judges, but we’re all looking forward to what you will do next. Best of luck!

obviously they hired some stupid judges this season. who would ever wear that stuff Angela makes?

Your sense of humor about this is so great… I was very sorry to see you go, but hopefully this has opened some wonderful doors for you. I don’t understand what the heck happened this week, but I’m looking forward to see whatever it is you have planned for this site!

I loved the hoodie…..........I am so sorry you got auf’d…...so what sort of things are kickin around in your brain?.....I am excited for you in all that could be in your future…good luck girl !!!

Hei…

You were one of my favorite people, I wanna meet you :(! I was very sad you were auf’d.

How did it feel… oi vey… :(...

Your dress was fine, whatever. I felt it was much more passable then some of those of the other designers.

Best of luck in future endeavors.

I’m so sorry you got eliminated in tonight’s show :( it made me really sad! I LOVED the dog hoodie you made, and the dress was super cute. Definitely something I would have worn! Heck, if you sold the dog hoodie I’d TOTALLY buy it for my puppy! :)
Sincerely, Carrie

I thought that your dress was adorable! I could easily see different color stories in the same design, pinks and reds, blues… a very cute and simple design. Meanwhile, Keith did nothing for the dog (yet appeared smug anyway) and Angela… was Angela. Maybe she’s more personable and talented than the editing of the show lets on, but ugh—her taste in clothes is not for me.

If you decide to produce and sell that dress, I’d snap one up for my wife in a minute. Size 8, please!

Both you and Malan were robbed in my opinion in the past two weeks. I like Bradley but his outfit was terrible. That guy makes Bag Lady clothes. He is like the latest in homeless wear. Angela’s outfit was also a mess. Its amazing to me that they can bully on someone like Jeffry who just has a younger sense of fashion but let her 1986 prom gown go over your outfit.

Any time a designer needs to go (Vincent, Angela) they some how slip by. There is also a huge gap between the communication of Tim Gunn and the Judges. There are alot of things that Tim sees in the designing room, but the judges always celebrate it. I guess it kind of shows you how fashion works though.

That totally shocked me, when I saw the last 2 people I turned back to my computer ‘cause I thought you were a shoe-in. I almost fell out of my chair when I heard the final say. :( You rock, and I can’t wait to see what happens next. Good luck with all of it!

I too was very shocked when you were auf’d!! I really liked your dress and the dog hoodie. I was very put off by Angela’s design, I don’t know what the judges were thinking.
Anyway, I just found your site because I loved your designs that I saw on the show. Your style is unique but wearable and marketable. I have to say that I got a little excited when I read that you work for Target. I am a Softlines executive in the stores and I hope to see more of your influence comming through into the clothes.

I’m nonplussed. Like everyone else, I think Angela or Vincent (leggings?) should have been aufed. You can teach construction, but you can’t teach style.

I’ve lost confidence in the judging. Nina Garcia is too controlling and manipulative. The judgments seem to be based around her opinions. HOW IN THE WORLD WAS BRADLEY’S DRESS IN THE TOP THREE THIS WEEK? What are they thinking? There have been sporadic moments when the judges got things wrong but this season has been terrible in that regard. Uli, Allison, Jeffery, Robert, Kayne, and Michael all had great dresses and had a chance of being in the top three. However the judges in particular Vera Wang and Nina were blown away by a bag and granny skirt presented by Bradley.

Sorry Katy for being auf’d. Nina doesn’t keep people in that are nice or give in or honest. If you were combative or a liar you probably would have stayed in, it would have been great TV too. Anyway, the dogs were so adorable! They stole the show. Michael’s dog lay in front of him while he sketched, how cute! Did you like yours? Laura was mean to hers at first luckily the dog seemed unconcerned and made the pairing work. Vincent’s dog was named Lil’ A, what a fit! Tim looked funny bringing the dogs over the hill. I hope you reach higher levels in fashion and have fun and happiness doing it.

I think you did a fantastic job and you were in my top three to go all the way. I am quite saddened by the fact that the raunchy street walker outfit made it through. I picked you because of your great sense of style, and I felt it came through on the clean lines of your dress and the subtle touches of the varying shades of green in the bodice area. Good luck with the rest of your career, clearly if you’ve seen the “After The Show” parts about people who didn’t win, they’re often doing much better than those who didn’t (Austin Scarlett vs. Jay McCarroll, Danny V. vs Chloe)

I’m in shock! Are they blind? Come on, a hoodie for a dog!!!!!! How cute is that?! You, by far, made the best accessary for a dog! I must admit, I have a crush! I was very sad to see you go. Best of luck in the future.

This bites. The show had such high standards in the first seasons and then dropped to DRAMA for the third. Considering Project Runway is Bravo’s top-rated show, why would they stoop to this type of crap? I’m aware TV does things for ratings, but this one just blows me away. BIG mistake. You weren’t even in the bottom HALF in my opinion. And speaking of opinions, I can’t wait to see what Blogging Project Runway fans have to say…obviously a LOT because their server went down after this episode! (BloggingProjectRunway.Blogspot.com) But who cares…GO Katherine…your designs are ones that are marketable!

    27 July, 07:15

Things that made me mad about last night’s episode:

1. Vincent wasn’t in the bottom 3
2. They loved Bradley’s
3. They auf’d the wrong designer!

So sad to see you go, Katie – it should have been Vincent or Angela, same as last week. Vincent made a smock, Angela made a costume for Skanky the Clown.

I loved the simplicity of your dress, and I thought the overlapping hemline was cute – a feature, not a bug.

Hi Katherine,
I was sorry to see you go. I liked your dress, loved the colors that you blended on the bust, and it was much more wearable than Angela’s outfit. I’m intrigued by your post, and will be checking back in to see what you do next!

LOVE the dress, sooo cute! Premature auf’ed. Good luck Katie you’re the shizzle!

That was the BEST of the dog outfits!!!! And the dress IS very cute. I know a lot of women who would love to wear it!

    27 July, 07:48

I’m so sorry you got the Auf. I seriously almost cried. I loved your dress and your little puppy hoodie.

I really hope the Project Runway experience brings some new opportunities your way. I would love to see a Katherine Gerdes activewear line. You best believe I would buy it.

I’ll be watching for you!

Your dress was super cute. Tim commented that the simplicity of your design was the reason for your auf’ing. Personally, I enjoyed the minimalism. I thought it was perfect—a sporty girl isn’t going to put on a jacket, leggings, etc. to take her dog out to the park.

What I really enjoyed about last night’s episode was the way you interacted with your dog. He was a cutie, no?

(If you still haven’t found Catster, it’s http://www.catster.com. I’m the proud owner of Buzzsaw, Wingnut, and Apocalypse.)

I forgot to mention this in most first post but Tallulah (Katy’s dog in this challenge) gave her a high-five. It was an adorable moment.

    27 July, 08:25

Not a deserved aufing in my opinion. I personally LOVED your dress. I liked the clean look and simplicity of it, loved the colors (I heart green!) and it fit your model great. When the “best” and “worst” were called forward, I was certain that yours was one of the best, and Bradley’s was one of the worst. Imagine my surprise! Wish you all the best!

Katherine,
It’s a total bummer you got auf’d last night, my friends and had no idea how you lost to Angelia’s outfit for a skanky 12 year old, it was unfair! Plus you’re from MN, wihich was very exciting.

Anyway, I only mention this because Thank you For Smoking is one of my favorite movies recently, and you spelled it as Thank You for Not Smoking. BTW, if you’re in Minnesota again, it’s playing at the Hopkins two dollar theater.

    27 July, 09:01

I was so sad to see you go last night! My husband and I were both shocked that they’d leave Angela in over you. I absolutely loved your dress…the fit, the colors, everything. I’d certainly buy it (if I had money!) and wear it if I could. And that hoodie on the dog…so, so cute. At least you got to go out on a good note, I guess? Can’t wait to see what you do next!

Totally bummed – I was cheering for my fellow Targeteer, and was it just me, or was that the very similar to the top that Angela did in Challenge 1, and wasn’t she wearing a skirt identical to her model’s last week AND this week. Poor Angie one note. Can’t believe she is still there. I thought Bradley’s design looked a lot like Daniel V’s orchid outfit last year – which I actually did like . . . and the judges did too – but I didn’t think it was THAT original.
Not sure who to cheer for now – but I will keep watching.
Best wishes for your future!

Katy,
Loved your choice of dog (Llhasa Apsos rock!),adored Tallulah’s hoodie; LOVED your dress! The celadon colors worked, and I loved the staggered hem, even if that wasn’t the goal. Seriously, if you decided to produce the dress commercially,I’d love a size 6-I am bidding on it on Bravo now. I don’t know what happens when Angela looks to her suitcase for inspiration, and Vincent looks at bygone eras for his; then poor Bradley can walk a totally de-constructed top down the catwalk and be praised for his efforts. I am proud that you kept your integrity and kindness on the show, too. Love the fact your a snowboarder-so am I; and am the SADDEST you are auf’d. I was rooting for you from day one, and I’ll be out there buying your line whenever it comes out. I am one of your greatest fans and have your site on my faves so I can keep up with what’s going on for/with you. Nothing but the best from Fort Worth TX,
Denise Stokes

There’s NO WAY you deserved to be auf’d last night! Best wishes for the future.

I was extremely bummed when you were auf’d in last night’s show. You’re dress was adorable and fit your model incredibly well. Your attitude about everything has been fantastic and although it was short-lived, it was a pleasure to watch the designs you made on the show. Best of luck in future endeavors!

Wow..I know everyone’s said it but it is a travesty that you were auf’d last night. I’m sure the judges are cringing in retrospect. Your dress was adorable- wish you had added that jacket you were talking about, that would have been great. Good luck in the future!

    27 July, 10:36

I was so sad. Especially since it was based on simplicity and execution, and Bradley simply pulled his garment out of his ASS! I like him very much, but it’s such a shame that one designer’s crazy luck becomes another’s auffing.

Just wanted to say that I’m not sure what the judges were thinking. Your dress was my personal favorite. I guess that my career in fashion is over before it starts because I obviously have no eye for what looks good. Good luck to you.

I’m so upset! I thought your dress was super cute and I would most definitely wear a dress like that. It was perfect with your story – something a little dressier that a sporty girl would feel comfortable in. You should not have gone home!

I was so sad to see you leave. best of luck in whatever you choose to do. I love your pack rat girls, they are great!!!

    27 July, 12:45

It’s ridiculous that they chose “bad taste” and “streetwalker” over “too simple.” This was the second week Angela should have been out, but I suspect they keep her because people love-to-hate her, and that helps ratings. I think you were sacrificied in the name of drama and shock. So sorry!

I’d watch a show just about you, Katy! You were so sweet when you left. I hope you had yourself a good cry, and got some good hugs. Can’t wait to see what you do next.

(By the way, any chance Target is going to change their anti-choice pharmacy policy? I know lots of boycotters, and don’t want to support the company either, until that changes.)

the first time i saw project runway was last night, the show we’re you got eliminated. it was sad because it was fun watching you- you’re cute and talented! your dress wasn’t too simple- it was beautiful. it was elegant but also something that the average person could wear.. best of luck, though you won’t need it.

  • #40 Nora
    27 July, 14:31

I went to the arts high school with you. (I got an e-mail saying you were going to be on the show.) I actually really loved the dress you designed (I’d wear it) and loved the dog outfit! I was sad to see you go as I believe your design was better than the other woman’s outfit, you are nicer than her, AND you followed the rules.

Either way, what an accomplishment to be on the show! I wish you the best of luck and lots of success in the future!

Congratulations on making it as far as you did. I’m sure the entire thing has been and will continue to be an amazing experience, and you know I’ve got your back with whatever you’re up to next.

Keep up the good work!

Thanks so much everyone for your support and kind words! I’m overwhelmed with the amount of praise and love sent this way, but it makes me very happy to hear it! When I was auf’d I thought I must be crazy because I couldn’t understand what the judges were seeing…now I know I’m not the only one who didn’t understand (although I may still be a bit crazy!).

Thanks a ton everyone!

I will try to answer everyone’s questions, but if I miss yours I’m sorry.

Tim – Thanks for the heads up on the movie. All fixed!

Anyone who asked – Yes. I loved my dog Tallulah. She was adorable and perfectly behaved. I couldn’t have picked a better dog. Plus she could do so many cool tricks!

Also, I’m looking into selling clothes and possibly doggie hoodies here on the site. Hopefully I can get that up and running relatively soon.

Deke- I know of a lot of designers (including me) who liked my dress. Don’t count out your opinion, just ‘cause Nina doesn’t agree! :)

Karuna – I don’t have a clue about Target’s pharmacy…the corporation is so large I don’t even know everyone in design.

so are u filling in the spot for the person who gets kicked off next show?

DEAR KATY,
I WAS SHOCKED & AWED WITH DESPAIR WHEN I SAW THIS EPISODE’S RESULTS. I THINK YOU ARE ALL-AROUND GREAT AND I LOVED YOUR DRESS THE BEST! I WOULD PAY YOU TO MAKE ONE FOR ME!!! CAN’T WAIT TO SEE SOME STUFF FOR SALE HERE! BEST OF LUCK IN THE FUTURE…

I DON’T KNOW WHO TO VOTE FOR NOW ON PR. I’M TEMPTED TO BOYCOTT THE SHOW. I JUST REALLY WANT TO SEE VINCENT GET AUF’D! WHO, OUT OF THE OTHERS, DID YOU LIKE BEST?

If you sell dog hoodies on this site, you can count me in on two! I have two Brussel Griffons (8lbs each) that are ready to plunk down some sweet mulah for designer Katherine Gerdes’s dog apparel!

  • #47 Tim
    27 July, 23:41

Hey I saw your interview on BPR and your personality really came out in the interview! I hate how we get to see/hear so little of the designers talking about their designs and their thought process, I wish there was more of the design process and less of drama/bashing others in interviews on the show, etc.

I am adding your RSS feed and look forward to Auf’d Runway!

Also if you sell dog hoodies, I will TOTALLY buy one for my Boston Terrier, Kyla!

I thought the construction on your garment was excellent and the details were lovely. It was simple, but I think it is far more difficult to present something simple and clean because there is nothing to hide behind – ll flaws will show. The dress looked immaculate to me. I will be here every week to see what you’re up to and how you’ve met the most recent challenge. Best of luck in all your future endeavors!

I was sad you were eliminated since Angela, well, sucks – and of course b/c you’re from MN. Anyway, I just wanted to tell you that there’s a typo on your resume – et cetera is abbreviated etc., not ect. Best wishes!

Katherine, I wrote on another post as well, but can some designers do cute clothes in larger sizes? I wear a size 16, and even though there’s Torrid and INC, there’s not enough CUTE clothes in larger sizes.

  • #55 Ruth L.
    28 July, 11:08

It’s a shame you were kicked off. Bah, high fashion sucks! And, for the record, living creatures are NOT fashion accessories! Hope you still have a good career in fashion!

I loved the dress (it was the only one I said outloud “That’s pretty! when the model came out) and the doggie outfit is something you should get manufactured and sold to the public. I know probably a few hundred dog lovers who’d snatch those up like free pancakes.

You should have stayed. I’m just a casual watcher of the show, but I think my brain exploded when you were ditched and the other “designer” stayed (yeah, I’m using the word loosely because, whatheheck????) ... I simply didn’t get it.

I wish you much luck and I’ll be bookmarking this blog. Go for your design dreams! From what I’ve seen, they are shiny! :D

I agree that you were unfairly auf’d, but I’m really excited to see your “Auf’d Runway” videos. As a home-sewing aspiring designer I feel I can learn a lot from you. I really loved your dress… the color, the layers, everything… It really bugs that the judges give props to designs that are ultimately unwearable (like dear sweet Bradley’s), over designs with taste, subtilty, and realism. But I’m glad that there are designers like you out there who know better!

  • #58 Jeanette
    28 July, 13:14

I was practically yelling at the TV when you got auf’d. Go figure that the only thing actually wearable outside the runway was turned down. Your dress was fantastic, simple as it was.

Watch, karma will kick in somewhere and you’ll become this huge designer while whoever wins the show will be forgotten by next season. Ha!

  • #59 Samantha
    30 July, 10:51

i was yelling at the screen when you got kicked off.
your style is exactly what i would have.
simple but classically pretty.
i am an aspiring indie designer and i hope one day i can be as talented as you. i was so excited to see a cute indie girl from minnesota, i’m so sorry that you got “auf’ed” but i am happy you have gootten some exposure and hopefully better things will some from this.

After the last two episodes of Project Runway, I’m beginning to question the taste of PR’s judges.

How on earth has Angela survived this far? You were robbed!

Your outfit was beautiful, it was summery and feminine. You didn’t deserve to go home when you did, but no matter what happened on the show I’m looking forward to watching where your career takes you. You are certainly going places.

Good luck with your fabulous designs!

Hey Katy! I think your last design was awesome…you definitly didn’t deserve to get kicked off! Do you know what breed of dog you made the hoodie for? If anyone knows, let me know! Best of luck!

  • #62 Kristen
    1 August, 22:02

I’m sorry you got kicked off the show. I was upset when you had to leave the runway. I was really rooting for you. I thought your design was much better than some of the other designers that made it through to the next round. The simplicity of it was what I thought made it great. I thought that they would have kicked Angela off the show for her ‘’interesting’’ design. I think that the producers of the show where just trying to keep viewers interested (Does anyone else notice the screen that says ‘’The judges consider both the design and the input of the producers when making their desicisons’’ that appears at the end of every episode?) . On the past few episodes Angela has coused a bit of trouble on the show. I think it should be based on the design. Again I’m sorry. Wishing you the best of luck in the furture.

  • #63 Mike
    1 August, 23:39

Hey Katy! I was floored when you got eliminated and I was really upset for you. Your design was beautiful and Talulah’s hoodie was great. The colors were so cheery and it looked comfortable! As opposed to, say, Angela’s which just looked like a fruit tree exploded onto a satin sheet. Which is odd because I’ve never seen a fruit tree do that before!
After I cried myself to sleep and grumbled over the horrible judging thus far, I checked out your blog. I am thrilled about your brilliant idea for ‘Auf’d’! I can’t wait to see what happens tonight. I’m psyched to watch PR because I’m an addict at this point, but I think I’m even more excited to see what you come up with. At least I won’t be throwing things at my TV set and upset at the judging!
I’m a designer too (and hope to be on Season 4, but I have a lot of work to do still) and think it would be great to do the rest of this season’s challenges too. So if you want some healthy fun ‘competition’ just let me know :o)

Good luck tonight!

future* typo sorry. my mistake.

There are some great designers this season, but I really think the judging has been way off each episode. The judging is very inconsistent.

I actually thought Bradley’s was Marni-esque and rather chic, but Vincent’s was a crappy black sleeveless dress that looked poorly constructed.

I loved how you used color in your outfit and it looked wearable and forgiving to a normal woman’s body.

I thought Angela should have left rather than Malan, and Jeffrey’s dress was hideous that week as well.

I love the show but it’s getting harder for me to watch it each week because the judging is so screwed up; even more so than in past seasons.
